About us

Why this blog? Well after constant battles with one thing or another, I thought it would be (a) cathartic and (b) possibly helpful for anyone else going through similar trials and tribulations with a SEN child to document how far we’ve come and how far there still is to go.

Over the course of the next few posts, I will endeavour to detail our journey with Jacob (and his sisters) from birth up until now after which I will update as and when anything significant happens. So, going right back, our eldest daughter was born and was followed 13 months later by Jacob.

My pregnancy was uncomplicated, or as uncomplicated as is possible with a pregnancy AND a young infant. I had an emergency c-section with Lily, our first child. I had a natural, albeit very fast, labour with Jacob. I am detailing this to dispel any myths that his difficulties could have been caused by pregnancy or birth issues. In fact, Jacob’s was my only natural and uncomplicated birth of 5 children (more on this later).

Jacob was an incredibly easy going infant of which I thought nothing off at the time. He rarely cried, was happy amusing himself (although of course I played with him and Lily mothered him massively!) and he slept through the night from around 8 weeks old. There was nothing that even hinted at how things were to turn out. Of course, I know now that a passive early history is common in children with PDA…
